Ar an Aer.

April 2009

The Irish language youth club had a special opportunity to organize a series of special events recently in conjunction with Máirtín Davy Ó Coistealbha. The broadcaster from RTÉ RnaG worked with the group over the duration of a month in order to teach radio skills.
These radio workshops were a great experience as they all learned the various skills needed to produce a radio programme. Particular emphasis was placed on presentation and the ability to present programmes clearly.
They also learned about researching for a programme and the importance of preparing a proper script beforehand.
As well as all this, they were made aware of the history of the radio, about recording techniques and the way technology has developed over the years.
The young people were lucky that Máirtín Davy was available to direct these workshops and pass on advice. As it happens, he has had 35 years of broadcasting experience and he recorded his first ever radio programme in Loughrea about the Spailpíní. Of course, he has travelled and recorded quite a bit since then and he was very willing to share his knowledge with the young folk of Loughrea. At present, the programme presented and produced by the youth club with Máirtín Davy is being edited and there is every possibility that soundbites might be broadcast on our local airwaves in the near future.
Cumann Óige Locha Riach is very grateful to Foras na Gaeilge, Naomh Breandán Credit Union and to Gaeilge Locha Riach that supported this project so much. They hope to build on these skills and produce other programmes in the future.

DVD ‘as Gaeilge’ le Cumann Óige

May 2009

Gaeilge Locha Riach would like to congratulate Cumann Óige Locha Riach for their achievements in recently performing a play and making a documentary on it’s development.
This play was produced in conjunction with the Irish drama company, Branar who organized a series of workshops in Naomh Breandán Credit Union. As the drama workshops continued in preparation for performance during ‘Féile Raifteirí’, a programme for DVD was being recorded.
There was quite a bit of work and time put into their rehearsals as they prepared for Ceolchoirm na n-Óg during ‘Feile Raifteirí’. The play itself was based on a poem by Raifteirí ‘An Tailliúir Drúisiúil’ and the young teenagers interpreted the story of the poem in their own dramatic way.
As one group scripted and rehearsed for performance, another team learned other skills in producing a documentary for DVD. Presentation, interviewing, lights, camera and action were all part of the skills needed to produce a programme.
More than 250 people gathered in the Lough Rea Hotel for Ceolchoirm na n-Óg during Féile Raifteirí at which Cumann Óige Locha Riach performed their play. This, of course, proved to be a very enjoyable occasion for friends and family.
Cumann Óige Locha Riach is very grateful to Foras na Gaeilge that supported their work over the year and would like to thank Elaine Scahill from Branar and camera man Cónall Mac Eochagáin that guided and advised the teenagers over a number of months.
Naomh Breandán Credit Union were also very helpful in providing rehearsal space. A DVD is now being edited and the youth group hope to organize an occasion for a public showing of their programme in the near future.
