Loughrea i mBéal Feirste

‘An Droichead, Deisceart Bhéal Feirste’ were the overall winners in the National Glór na nGael competition and all of the prizes were recently presented in the City Hall, Belfast.
It must be said that Loughrea were very proud to be among the winners yet again. Galway County Council prize was presented to the Glór na nGael committee of Baile Locha Riach, with a value of €1,500.
The adjudicators believed that this committee had been extremely active in co-operating with Gaeilge Locha Riach, Galway County Council and NUIG in completing a survey on the Use of Irish in the area. They were particularly commended for their continued work with community, business and local authorities.

Ali Mac Aindreasa, Chairperson of the local committee, said that they were delighted be recognized among Glór na nGael winners again.
“Of course, this prize recognizes that an active Irish language community is getting stronger in Loughrea and it challenges us to build on this work in East Galway.”

Baile Locha Riach Winners again. April 2009

Gaoth Dobhair, Donegal were the overall winners and all the przes were presented there 28 March.
It must be said that the people of Loughrea were very proud that they had two prizesa presented to them; COGG prize in working with all of the schools in the area and Cló-Iar-Chonnachta Prize for promoting reading throughouit the community.
Ali Mac Aindreasa, Chairperson of the local committee, said that they were delighted to be given this further recognition:
“Of course it is great to be recognized among Glór na nGael winners again. These prizes recognize that an active Irish language community is getting stonger in Loughrea.”

The national prizes of Glór na nGael were announced on St. Brigid’s Day. Ennis, Co. Clare was proclaimed the overall winner and all the prizes will be awarded there 29 March. The local committee of Glór na nGael are very pleased to be among the winners again this year and they are now competing at the highest level of the competition. They are certainly very proud that they will be awarded two prizes; Gaelscoileanna Prize and Cross Border Prize.

The Glór na nGael committee in Loughrea are very proud to accept these awards. This money is put towards Irish language projects in the district.
