The aims of ‘Gaeilge Locha Riach’ is to develope the Irish language in East Galway; to make the Irish language available to the people of the district and to make Irish language services available to everyone in the area.

We have a particular interest in providing Gaeilge to the youth, making it a permanant feature of their lives.

Membership is open to other groups in the area that are interested in the promotion of the Irish language.

We invite partnership of other groups and organisations that support our aims.

We have a wide range of services available to promote the Irish language:

• We are involved in educational matters at various levels; supporting pre-schools, Gaelscoils, the use of Gaeilge in national and secondary schools, afterschool services, intensive courses, summer camps, night classes and conversational circles.
• ‘Gaeilge Locha Riach’ are very much part of the local community; organizing various events with different organisations, youth groups, concerts, music sessions, singing circles, festivals, public lectures, events for children and families.
• We continually co-operate with local authorities, cultural, heritage, historical and other groups of every age group, both young and elderly in the promotion of the Irish language.
• Gaeilge Locha Riach supports the business community in the promotion of Gaeilge in the area; promoting bilingual signage and stationery, window display competitions and are always available for advice in this regard.
